MEXICAN PACIFIC COAST - MEXICO YOGA RETREAT
SAYULITA, MEXICO RETREAT – NOVEMBER 1-8, 2014
Sayulita is close to Puerto Vallarta. There you will find: yoga sessions overlooking the Pacific Ocean, cozy eco-chic casitas surrounded by tropical forest, pristine beaches, gourmet organic food, the traditions of the Huichol ethnic group and the opportunity to experience their temazcal ceremony to detox and restore body and mind.
We will stay at Haramara, located near the quaint fishing town of Sayulita, a favorite surfing destination on the Nayarit Riviera, less than one hour away from Puerto Vallarta.
As reviewed by the Yoga Journal, this is one of the ten best yoga retreats in the world. This eco-chic style sanctuary was created with great care to provide a natural and supportive environment to connect, renew and restore well-being. Each guest room is housed in a private standalone thatched hut – made of all natural materials – and featuring exceptional ocean and jungle views.
The perfect place for digital-detox, as it has no TV, WiFi or even electricity. Lighting is provided by kerosene lanterns and candles. As a guest remarked, this retreat is “Robinson Crusoe meets Architectural Digest.”
For beach lovers: a private unspoiled beach within walking distance of one of the most famous surfing beaches on the Mexican Pacific coast.
Your culinary experience will be exquisite: award-winning chefs prepare natural, fresh, and creative food to tempt all of our senses.
The schedule will feature two hours of yoga and meditation in the morning and two more in the afternoon. Instruction will be delivered in English or in Spanish according to need.
We will have time to enjoy the surroundings, explore the town of Sayulita (within walking distance), go to the beach, enjoy a massage, stone healing therapy or experience adventure in an optional excursion such as zip line riding, surfing, or horseback riding.
On the last day we will submerge ourselves in a temazcal purification ritual.
Temazcal, a healing experience
The temazcal – the traditional sweat lodge of pre-Hispanic origin – has survived from antiquity to our times as a healing experience and a space of prayer. To produce the heat, volcanic stones are heated by a shaman in a bonfire located on the far side of the temazcal; these are then placed in a pit inside of the temazcal to produce steam. The inside represents the womb of our Mother Earth where the earliest of moments are recreated and where things prepare to be born and reborn.
